Castellanos was the 44th pick of the Major League Baseball draft in 2010. Baseball America rated him as the fourteenth-best overall prospect and the third-best power hitting prospect. Because of his dedication to the University of Miami, he fell. He signed with the Tigers and received a $3.45million signing bonus. This was the largest bonus ever offered to a player after the first round. The deal almost was invalidated because the Tigers’ email to Commissioner of Baseball did not reach him until 3:00 AM on August 15, 2010.
