Jim McIlvaine is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on July 30, 1972 in Racine, Wisconsin, United States. James Michael McIlvaine (born July 30 1972) is a retired American professional basketball player who played seven seasons playing in the National Basketball Association with the Washington Bullets, Seattle SuperSonics as well as the New Jersey Nets. The shot-blocking specialist, who stands 7 feet 1, is perhaps most famous for the fallout that took place following his signing with his team the Seattle SuperSonics in 1996.
Despite the opposition of fans, McIlvaine helped the Sonics to win their division in every season he spent as a member of the Sonics. In 1997, Seattle was involved in an exchange between three teams that saw Kemp for Cleveland’s Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for the Milwaukee Bucks’ Vin Baker and being the Cavaliers’ Terrell Brandon and Tyrone Hill going to Milwaukee.
McIlvaine rounded out his career with the Nets, playing three injury-riddled seasons with the team. In 1999–2000, McIlvaine played 66 games in his best season since leaving Seattle, but injury problems and declining numbers continued to hamper him until his contract was bought out by the Nets after the 2000–01 NBA season. McIlvaine retired with an average of 2.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.71 blocks in 401 career games.
In 1996 the Sonics gave a seven-year $33.6 million free-agent deal to McIlvaine. Seattle fans were furious, and so was star forward Kemp who was seeking a raise in his contract after having led the team to an all-time record of 64 wins. It was also its most impressive postseason run in the span of 17 years, which included an unprecedented 3rd Finals appearance in the history of the franchise. However, because Kemp had signed an extension to his contract in 1994 The NHL’s collective bargaining agreements (CBA) prohibits any modifications to the contract until October 1997.
