In round 2, Jones did well in his comeback with a win over Richmond in the MCG. Jones scored four quarter-time goals to earn seven goals to win his second career match.
The end of the season, Jones was offered up for trade prior the 2009 AFL Draft; however no suitable trade could be made , and Jones continued to play for North Melbourne. But he played only one game during the first portion in the season 2009 after a disagreement between his coach Dean Laidley blamed for his removal to the reserve squad, North Ballarat. Following Laidley quit as coach and Darren Crocker took over as the interim coach, Jones took part in 9 of 11 games.
