Carolyn Leonhart, born July 10, 1971, is a jazz singer. She is the daughter of Jay Leonhart, a jazz bassist, and Michael Leonhart’s sister. She has been a backup vocalist for Steely Dan during several tours and recordings.

Leonhart returned to New York in 1994 and began singing in jazz clubs. She came third in the Thelonious Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition that year. Critics said that her selection of “Nobody Else but Me”, and “Day Dream” was bold. However, she needed more control and a more focused delivery. Leonhart continued to perform with many musicians over the years, including The Real Live Show, a hip hop group, and Wax Poetic. Wax Poetic is a hybrid of electronica, trip hop and funk. She recorded an album in 1998 with the Swiss Percussion Ensemble. This group consisted of four classical percussionists, whose instruments were mostly made of glass. Leonhart’s 2000 album Steal The Moon was a collaboration with Rob Bargad, pianist and composer. She has been performing regularly since then at The Smoke Jazz Club in New York City and Steamers and The Vic in California.
